The celebration will honor distinguished members of Delaware’s courts, bar, and community for their work, contributions, and commitment to liberty and justice for all.  Additionally, the Gala will  highlight Juneteenth and its historical and cultural significance. Please join us for an evening of celebration, remembrance, and dancing!

JUDICIAL PROFILE IN EXCELLENCE AWARD: 

Chief Justice Collins J. Seitz, Jr.- Del. Supreme Court

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Honorable Chief Justice Collins J. Seitz, Jr., for his promotion and dedication to equity and diversity within the Delaware Bar, is the Judicial Profile in Excellence Award recipient. Justice Seitz has served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware since November 2019. Prior to his appointment as Chief Justice, Justice Seitz served on the Delaware Supreme Court from April 2015 to November 2019. Before his time on the bench, Chief Justice Seitz was a founding partner of Seitz Ross Aronstram & Moritz LLP, as well as a partner of Connolly Bove & Hurtz LLP. In addition to his stellar legal career, he has served in various leadership roles on numerous boards of the Delaware Supreme Court.

JUSTICE THURGOOD MARSHALL AWARD

Penelope "Penny" Marshall, Esquire

Penelope Marshall, Esquire, is the Justice Thurgood Marshall Award recipient. A devoted leader and public servant, ensuring any citizen, receives the highest legal representation regardless of their economic status, Ms. Marshall has dedicated the bulk of her legal career to public defense in federal courts, in Washington D.C. and Delaware. As a testament to her work, Ms. Marshall was appointed as Chief Federal Defender for the District of Delaware, becoming the first African American woman to do so. In conjunction with her work as a defender, Ms. Marshall has served her time on numerous community and professional boards.

EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD:

Michelle A. Taylor, Ed.D.

 

Dr. Michelle A. Taylor, a dedicated and unwavering advocate for some of Delaware’s most underserved populations, will receive the Excellence in Community Services Award. A career non-profit professional, Dr. Taylor is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of Delaware. In addition to her work at United Way, Dr. Taylor is also a board member of several professional organizations, continuing to pour her time and energy into Delaware’s many communities.
